Welcome to my blog! I don't know how your phones and devices work, but the videos and the links work better when I scroll to the bottom of this page and click on View Web Version. If you don't, you're going to miss out on all sorts of cool stuff that is included in the right sidebar... and it's prettier.

I Am Me! Am I Me? I think I'm Me. Maybe I'm Me?

My Facebook account has been "Temporarily Suspended" because Facebook says I'm not using my Real Name-- Amythyst Raine Hatayama is my real & legal name, just to keep things straight.  I have complied, as best I can-- with a photo of my Drivers License, as they requested a "photo ID", which had to include my name and birthdate. (Boy, this sounds weird and creepy.)

Here's the email from Facebook:

Hi,
Your account is temporarily suspended because we think your Timeline doesn’t list your real name. Facebook is a community where people use their real identities. We require everyone to provide their real information so you always know who you're connecting with.

Before we can reopen your account, we need to verify your identity. If you haven't already done so, please upload your ID. The fastest way to confirm your name is to send us a government-issued ID. If you don't have one, we'll accept two of the following alternative IDs:

https://www.facebook.com/help/www/159096464162185

These two documents must combine to show your full name, picture and date of birth.

Once you send us the necessary ID, we'll be happy to reopen your account.

Thanks,
The Facebook Team

  1. Uh oh. I definitely do not use my real name on FB for several reasons - one of which is an internet stalker. Holy moly - I am SO sorry this happened to you.

  2. Me, too, I use FB for business and promotional purposes. I connected with my editor at FB, as well as other business contacts. I promoted my books and blogs, my website, and my tarot readings. This is devastating.

I've recently been told in an email that this has been happening to several popular pagan individuals, and that all it takes is one complaint, someone accusing you of not using your real name. But wouldn't you think the FB employees would at least take a cursory look before they hit the suspend button?!

This lady connected with me at My-Google-Page: https://plus.google.com/115470498364726846205/posts?hl=en ) and she left links to a bang-up article she wrote about this Facebook situation and its ramifications: http://www.herbylady.com/posts/rearranging-social-media/

  5. Who is FB to decide what's a legit name? Not everyone is a 'John' or a 'Jane', nor should they be. Them wanting to see your ID is literally ridiculous.

    1. I've just learned that the same thing has happened to the pagan author, Vila Spiderhawk-- her account has been suspended, and yes, that's her Real Name!

    2. Hi Amythyst! Very interesting this happended to me at the exact same time! My birthday is October 16 so I was really bummed! They disabled my account because of my name and that I have two accounts. I used one for my personal family and the other for my Pagan spiritual interests and promoting my book. Ofcourse, they took away the Pagan one. I believe that those that discriminate against us as pagans and witches are being supported by facebook of this social attack. In order to get back in contact with my friends I was forced to "come out" of the Cauldron so to speak. I lost over 2,000 friends! but thankfully am gaining them back! Albeit more slowly. I would get 75 requests a day. I don't think facebook likes that very much.
