I thought this was going to be three separate readings on three separate topics for three separate individuals out there, that's what I thought. Spirit -- and the cards -- had a different idea. I was amazed as these three readings unfolded and a definite theme emerged; it was obviously a story aimed at one individual with a definite question that needs to be addressed. What Are The Akashic Records?

While many describe or explain the concept in different ways, in essence, the Akashic Records are believed to be the repository of every thought, word, and deed of every living being, good, bad, and awful, in all times... past, present, future. But those familiar with the records report that there is no judgment or implied penalty in the records. They are said to simply be a record of each soul’s journey through the infinite.

History of the Akashic Records

One of the earliest references to the Akashic Records in modern times was made by Helena Blavatsky, founder of the Theosophical movement in the late 19th century. Theosophy is an esoteric belief system that incorporates philosophical tenets from eastern religions while maintaining that “there is no religion higher than Truth.”

Blavatsky claimed she learned of the records from Tibetan monks, or “mahatmas” who said the records could be found in the “akasha” or “akasa”, the Sanskrit word for astral light, or the ether element in eastern belief systems. This fifth element of space is considered the fundamental fabric of reality from which all other elements emerge, the source of material reality. The eastern idea of karma is a major facet of the Akashic records.

These “Masters of the Ancient Wisdom,” as Blavatsky referred to them, has taught her clairvoyance, psychic abilities, and astral projection. She used these tools to channel information from the Akashic records and built a large following of Theosophists, including some famous ones.

Metaphysician Rudolf Steiner also referenced the Akashic Records, asserting that every action, word, and thought leaves a trace in etheric realms. Contemporary physicist Ervin Laszlo explores concepts of Akasha from the perspective of science, concluding that the Akasha contains templates for human ideals such as harmony and equanimity. This is reflected in his “Akasha Paradigm” which he relates to human evolutionary processes.

Those who subscribe to Akashic record models often reference the Book of Life first mentioned in the old testament (Exodus). Biblical scripture asserts that a record of every life is kept in heaven, and it is from these records that souls are judged.

Explorations of the Akashic field were also a major focus of the writings and work of Edgar Cayce. Cayce’s Akashic studies posited that there is a storehouse of information in a non-physical plane of existence, which maintains a record of every soul’s past, present, and future. Cayce’s readings are some of the best known.

6 Steps for Accessing the Akashic Records

The search words “access Akashic Records” in a Google search returns 427,000,000 results. Dozens of YouTube gurus are soliciting “How to Access Akashic Records” content, along with hypnosis programs claiming to lead listeners straight into the cosmic hallowed halls.

Those who access the records report that seekers may experience meeting guides, angels, and behind-the-scenes players. It seems that the galactic library is well staffed. Some say that accessing the records is a type of “channeling”, others say they receive information in dreams.

Again, one might imagine opening a “scroll” of one’s life, but those claiming to have accessed the records report any number of experiences: images of guides, temple environments, or auditory messages or instructions, some report “movies” of past lives. After sifting through different accounts of the Akashic Record reports, it becomes obvious that everyone has an experience that is unique to them.

Some access the records on their first attempt, others persist for weeks or months before achieving success, so approaching the effort in the spirit of play, free of expectation, may be the best approach. Many say that persistence in the form of repeated sessions over time brings the best results. There are as many methods found in books, blogs, and YouTube videos as there are diverse reports. That said, there are fundamental principles common to many methods.

Here are some steps to follow if you’re trying to access the records for the first time. The records could be thought of as a cosmic computer system that's recorded every soul’s thoughts and experiences on a vibrational level. Remember you may not be able to access the records on your first try or even your fifth. As with any tool used for spiritual growth, it takes patience, consistent meditation, and a good deal of research to successfully access the records, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t find what you’re looking for right away.

1. Decide what you want to know.

Are you just browsing? If so, define your intention, which might be, “I want to confirm the existence of the Akashic Records" or “I want to experience the realm of the Akashic Records”.

2. Do you have a specific question?

Try spending a little time clarifying intention, perhaps by writing your thoughts with the understanding that there are no wrong questions or intentions. You can ask what you like, but you may not always get an answer.

3. When you’re ready, clearly state your intention and request guides.

Whether you know them or not, you will need their assistance. 

4. Use whatever meditation practice you prefer to enter a relaxed open state. 

Give yourself time to let your energy settle and center. Ask to be allowed to access the records in regard to your question . Now stay in an open, receptive state, allowing information to enter your awareness. It could be visual, or auditory, or come in the form of a guide or angel.

5. If you connect with another being, ask their name and clarify what you’re looking for.

Be very specific about what you're looking for regarding your question. 

6. When you’re ready, end your session and take the time to record the experience. 

Did you get access? If not, it’s ok. For many, it takes more than one attempt to tune in. Even if you believe nothing happened, write down any impressions or thoughts. Hindsight may reveal more than expected.

The Akashic Records are a vast trove of information containing incredible wisdom and insight. If you’re curious to learn why you are who you are, how you got here, or future possibilities you may find yourself experiencing in this lifetime, it can be an amazing resource. Do yourself a favor and dig into Edgar Cayce’s readings, the history of Blavatsky and the Theosophists, as well as Ervin Laszlo, and that should give you a pretty solid foundation to start your explorations.

Who Can Read the Akashic Records?

While Debbie Ritter may dispute an “expert” attribution, she qualifies. After studying Mandarin Chinese, practicing environmental law, and lifelong studies of yoga, shamanism, Buddhism, and a Course in Miracles, she turned to develop her native intuitive talents. Training with several teachers, she studied the Akashic Records with author Linda Howe. Now she is an intuitive life coach, psychic medium, and Akashic Records reader.

When asked about obstacles to accessing the records, she explained that the system is simply not everyone’s “thing”. She said, “Working in the records may be something that some people are curious about, but for whom nothing clicks. When that happens, it may be perfectly valid that there is another path or modality that will resonate with that person. I see this when I’m doing short intro sessions. Personal curiosity satisfied, they move on to something else.”

She added that another roadblock is disbelief, explaining that some are up against preconceptions, or distrust their own experience. Regardless, Ritter believes no one is forbidden from the records. “It’s just not my experience as a reader, or a teacher,” she said. Adding that some shy away from the records due to anxiety. “It is up to the individual to decide whether to continue. In my case, the anxiety indicated that internal issues were being stirred up. I was able to get support from both the Records and others to do some inner work.”

Ritter added that there are occasional “false” Akashic Record experiences. She said that clear indicators are fear or negativity. “Also, a strident tone, such as ‘you must do this’ or ‘you must do that’ is out of character with the nature of the Records,” Ritter explained that this also disempowers individual choice.

• Similarly, there is no fate or destiny in the records, as life is the result of multiple, constantly shifting contingencies and synergies. "Life is more complex than that, and there is no certainty in the outer world,” she said.

Have you ever heard of Jose Silva?... I had not.  Interesting.

The Silva Method is a self-help and meditation program developed by José Silva. It claims to increase an individual's abilities through relaxation, development of higher brain functions, and psychic abilities such as clairvoyance.

José Silva, an electronics repairman, developed an interest in psychology to see if it could help him increase his children's IQ. After experimenting and being convinced of his daughter's sudden clairvoyance, Silva decided to learn more about the development of psychic abilities.

In 1944 Silva began developing his method, formerly known as Silva Mind Control. He used it on his family members and friends before launching it commercially in the 1960s.

Silva was the subject of a 1990 biography.

The technique aims to reach and sustain a state of mental functioning, called alpha state, where brainwave frequency is seven to fourteen Hz. Daydreaming and the transition to sleeping are alpha states.

Silva claimed to have developed a program that trained people to enter certain brain states of enhanced awareness. He also claimed to have developed several systematic mental processes to use while in these states allowing a person to mentally project with a specific intent. According to Silva, once the mind is projected, a person can allegedly view distant objects or locations and connect with higher intelligence for guidance. The information received by the projected mind is then said to be perceived as thoughts, images, feelings, smells, taste and sound by the mind. The information obtained in this manner can be acted upon to solve problems.

Soul Contracts ~ Am I the only one who's never heard of this?

 

Once this topic popped up with the great god Google, I found some conflicting explanations:  1) That this is basically the name for our life plan that we go through and decide upon before an incarnation. 2) There was also this definition: Born out of despair, fear, pain, or anger, a soul contract is an unconscious promise that you've made with yourself in the past that is now hindering your ability to move forward in life. 3) And then there was this, in answer to the question, "What is a soul contract?": Soul Contracts are experienced with all types of relationships, including a spouse, a family member, a lover, a boss, an employee or a friend. Three main types of Soul Contracts are: Soulmate Contracts, Bump Contracts and Twin Flame Contracts.  There were a few other explanations and/or definitions thrown into the mix, which only added to the confusion.

Now, I know that when anything spiritual is up for discussion, and no matter what spirituality, path, or religion you embrace and you choose to believe, spirituality in itself is all theoretical.  It just is, no matter how much we don't want it to be, because there can be no scientific proof.  And this is okay, because as I see it, that's where "faith" comes in, and that would be a whole other blog post.

For now, let's stick to Soul Contracts.

After browsing through several pages of information, I came upon this relatively calm and reflective article that I decided to start with.  So, we'll do that.  I would more than welcome other people's reflections, ideas, beliefs, thoughts, etc., in the comments.  What do you all think?

Finding the beauty in our relationships is essential for a healthy and well-balanced life. This seems fairly simple, but the stress in relationships gets in the way of us seeing their perfect structure and beauty. When something goes wrong in a marriage, a family, a partnership, a working relationship, or a friendship, it’s difficult to stop and see the beauty and divine planning in the experience. To say the loss of a job, divorce, or the break up of a relationship or friendship is a beautiful thing is an oxymoron, yet all of these events are part of our spiritual plan, or more specifically our “Soul Contract”.

Soul Contracts are agreements made with the people you encounter in this lifetime and include all of the lessons you have chosen to experience with other souls. In my last article, I wrote about spiritual blueprints and how they are the maps of our lives. “Before we are conceived, it is believed that our soul plans the life we will have. Every person that we have or will ever come into contact with is a planned meeting.” If we take that one step further, Soul Contracts are the spiritual contracts between two (or more) people that commence as soon as you meet. These contracts are devised to teach us important life lessons, move our lives in different directions, or awaken motivation and passion within us.

Soul Contracts are experienced with all types of relationships, including a spouse, a family member, a lover, a boss, an employee, or a friend. Three main types of Soul Contracts are: Soulmate Contracts, Bump Contracts, and Twin Flame Contracts.

• Soulmate Contracts

Soulmate contracts are carefully chosen before we incarnate to best support our soul’s development. Our soulmate’s purpose is to help us learn and grow. Think of the person who has hurt you the most and has left you feeling like a train steam-rolled over your heart; the person who swept into your world like a tornado and rocked you to your core, changing who you are forever and teaching you more about yourself than anyone else could. That is a soul mate.

Within this love-hate relationship, your duties to each other are to help grow your souls and to do “soul work.” A soulmate introduces you to a new version of yourself, tearing down walls and barriers that reveal and awaken another layer of yourself. Soulmate does not mean mates for life. In most cases you are not supposed to end up with your soulmate. These relationships are extremely passionate and equally painful, some are the most painful relationships we will ever experience. The soulmate relationship stimulates growth by teaching us lessons that are difficult to learn. The contract is fulfilled once the lesson is learned.

• Bump Contracts

Bump contracts involve a person with whom we have had an intimate past-life experience and connection. These people agree to come into our lives to check if we are traveling on our correct spiritual path. According to Steve Rother, a well-known spiritual advisor, “As souls, we are aware that many times we get stuck in situations that can distract us from accomplishing our real soul work. Bump contracts are designed to come together with such intensity that they cannot help but jolt us out of our routine. Their purpose is to remind us of our original soul intention and direction. Quite often these appear as irresistibly romantic encounters. By their very nature, they must be strong enough to ‘bump’ us into some kind of new awareness. Their very strength is often sufficient to tempt us into an affair.”

Due to the nature of bump contracts, they are rarely meant to be long-term relationships. They allow an opportunity for both parties to change the trajectory of their lives and get on the correct path.

• Twin Flame Contracts

Twin Flames, or Twin Souls, are spiritually two halves of one soul. Each twin completes the other, which is the sole purpose of this contract. Upon meeting a twin flame there is an instant attraction, often referred to as “love at first sight".  According to the spiritual website www.isisjade.com, the following are signs that you have met your Twin Flame:

1. Attraction that defies and compels you beyond common sense
2. A sense of completion when you are with them
3. Their presence is magnetic and is felt long after they leave you
4. You complement each other perfectly
5. Ability to feel each other whether you are together or not
6. A feeling of closeness so strong its as if you are siblings
7. A beginning of a breakdown of your lives as you knew them upon finding one another
8. Synchronicity will be overwhelming discovering yourselves texting, calling, or e-mailing each other at the exact same times
9. Once fulfilled, this contract can bring the most intense and fulfilling love and peace that is ever experienced.

There is another type of Twin Flame Contract that can be a bit trickier:

This contract brings the Twin Flames together to connect the souls and then disconnects them. According to Debbie Nagioff, clairvoyant, writer, and broadcaster, “Inevitably, in twin soul connections we come up against the ‘dance', the connection and the disconnection between the two that is incredibly frustrating and cannot be rushed. We are dealing with a process here. Within the connection you often find that one party is very keen to move the relationship on to higher levels, whilst the other doesn’t know what is going on and doesn’t want to deal with the relationship, as it touches deep and painful emotions that may have been suppressed. So they try and escape the relationship. The latter of the pairing is often referred to as a ‘runner.’ The intensity of the connection means that each one feels the other’s pain and confusion and there is much telepathic interchange. Both are pulled around by the compulsion of the energy and are connected by what seems like an electrical cord.”

The people dealing with this type of Twin Flame contract characteristically have meetings that are unanticipated, unexpected, and in many cases, unwanted. The Twin Flame pair may already be in committed and solid relationships with family and completely established lives. This type of contract never happens at a convenient time.

There are many practical reasons for this relationship not to work, such as religion, long distances, age differences, and existing relationships. Patience is the key to fulfilling a Twin Flame Contract. This type of Soul Contract has been coined “a gift and a curse wrapped up in one".

Soul Contracts are powerful and bring substantial pleasure and spiritual fulfillment. They can also bring about a great deal of pain and distress. It is important to understand the nature of your relationships and what they are trying to teach you. From a spiritual perspective, our soul’s purpose in coming to Earth is to learn and gain experience and knowledge. If you are in a Soul Contract that brings distress to you, try not to get lost in the pain; instead, breathe deeply and focus on the lesson. Thank the friend, boss, spouse, or lover for fulfilling the Soul Contract. Thank them for helping your soul grow and learn.
