Earlier in the day, Fremont NE was hit with an impressive Thunderstorm!  For my readers who don't live in the US, you should know that this is VERY unusual weather for our area.  If we were getting any precipitation this time of year, it should be snow!

Hello, from Hedgewytch Hollow! I’m tucked in bed this morning with my computer and a fresh cup of morning coffee (my first one, actually).  My ipod is singing to me in the background (an Indian/Yoga/Relaxation chant), and if I remember, I’ll tuck it at the bottom of this blog post so you can listen to it, too.  I have tons of stuff to do on this holiday weekend.  Where, in earlier years, I would spend weeks preparing for this end-of-the-year holiday, I’m going to do it all in ONE day this time– today!  But my kids are thrilled that we are ALL off work and home at the same time, so I’m going to chill, and we’re going to “wing it”.  This is going to be a warm and fuzzy huggy weekend; I can see it coming.

There are so many inspiring magickal tools out there to draw love to you, but I’ve not seen anything created to Pave-the-Way for love.  In order to draw pure genuine love to you, you may need to do some cleansing and clearing of negative energy and negative issues that are baggage from previous relationships or awkward romantic encounters.  This could include something as severe as physical or emotional abuse, as well as irreconcilable differences, or non-compatibility issues.  It all leaves us steeped in a froth of negative energy that needs to be cleared before a new and healthy romantic connection can be made.

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, It's Off to Work I Go

The following video will give you some idea of the landscape I pass on my commute to work five days a week. (Don't worry, I was watching the road the whole time, I just had my camera in my hand, holding it.)  As a matter-of-fact, I didn't even know what I had gotten on film until I looked at it after I got home from work that day.  I had tried this once previously and had the camera inadvertently facing the wrong way; I had lots of film of my hand and the inside of my car.  (Yes, I saved the video.)

Historical Accuracy & the Modern Practicing Pagan

Elephants, Elephants, Elephants ~ My Journey to Ganesha

It started about 16 years ago, honestly, I can't believe it myself!  My fascination with elephants began as I was extricating myself from a 16 year marriage with a control freak, leaving an emotionally unhealthy situation.  I was so drawn to elephants in any form...artwork, statuary, jewelry...that my house is full of elephants, literally, almost every room carries the energy of this animal.  It was as if I'd never noticed elephants before; and I was puzzled as to my infatuation, because as a living animal, they were not a creature that I felt connected with.  It went somehow strangely beyond the living animal, but I didn't understand how or why.

The next phase, be patient!

My daughter bought me a beautiful statue of Ganesha...and no, I very blindly did not see the connection.  From my vantage point today, I find this amazing!

 

Several more years passed, and I was in my "tattooing" stage and loving every moment of it.  I decided to get a tattoo on my chest, just beneath my right collar bone, and I was inexplicably drawn to a beautiful image of the moon and the sun interlocking with each other.  I was told that this was actually an image of the Hindu god and goddess, Shiva and Shakti, and represented their sexual union...No, I did not realize at the time that Shiva and Shakti were the parents of Ganesha.  In fact, I was not aware of this until very recently!  Again, the synchronicity is amazing, and what makes it even more so is my naiveté and blindness to it all.

 

 

Flash forward to the very recent present time ~ I wound up working somewhere that I had not expected to work (Next Millennium, http://magicalomaha.com).  It was a fluke, something I had not thought about, an offer that was totally out of the blue, which played in amazingly when the job I had in Fremont folded.  I was literally "semi-unemployed" for one day and jumped right in from 4 days a month at Next Millennium, to 5 days a week at this amazing shop!  It is no less than "magickal", how this all worked out. (This event, this connection, is crucial to this story.)

 

Next synchronistic event ~ I like turning Youtube videos on while I'm getting ready for work in the morning, and on a very recent morning I tuned in to Joanna Devoe, to this video, and heard her talk about Ganesha...time stamp 3:17

 

 

Finally, as I was listening to this delightful lady talk about Ganesha, something in my brain went "click".  I was at least tuned in, if not yet totally connected.

 

Next synchronicity ~ at work.  I suddenly noticed that the ladies I was working with were making references to Ganesha.  It was like a door was slowly creaking open.  Simultaneously, his image popped up in orders at the shop, and even on my computer at home.  I would bring something up or turn around to take a sip of coffee, and when I turned back, there he was.  He also appeared in many other bizarre and unexpected ways throughout the day that were like quick flashes. 

 

And then, unexplainably, in one astounding lightening bolt "Aha!" moment...I connected!!  I connected all these years long synchronistic events.  It was almost a feeling of "Good grief!  All this time this is what was trying to communicate with me, and I kept putting it off!"

 

I am so excited!...And I thank the universe and all the hints and clues it was throwing my way all these years; and I thank the amazing ladies I work with, and the wonderful Ms. Devoe, for finally throwing this door wide open! 

 

The connection is complete...at last!

I'm going to apologize right now for some of the audio in this video.  I was in my car, and it was a hot day, and I was running the air conditioner.  It's not so bad in most places, and in a few spots it's a little more 'iffy.  However, with that said, "The Witch's Diary" series of videos is a combination of blog and diary.  They are moments in my life caught on the cuff; whether it's a family afternoon at the zoo, a sudden summer storm, or some other odd-ball activity, circumstance, or idea that I think of on a dull day. How Not to Pick Up Chicks

Hello, World!  In-between being married five times, I've been single.  Whenever the new Single Phase descends upon me, I am thrown into the arena of singledom and all that this implies. This last time finds me at a unique and pivotal point in life at the ripe old age of 59 (Sept 24th).  You would think, you'd think, that as we grow older, we also grow wiser in a number of ways, and this would include our interaction with the opposite sex ~ How we approach another individual; how we interact with them on a human, compassionate, intelligent level.  How we pick up on their vibes, their natural energy, and their unspoken feelings.

You would think that, naturally, just like everything else in life, we'd get more tuned in, more mature, and better at this; what with getting older, and life experience, and everything. 

Well, you'd be wrong.

To be honest, I don't think anything has changed in this arena of life since Junior High.  Sad, but true.  The only difference I see so far is there are no curfews; and we're more concerned with taxes, insurance, and retirement plans rather than hall passes and homework.

With all this in mind, new as I am yet to this Single Phase, I've decided to write this essay directed at men, on how NOT to pick up chicks.  I don't have a choice really.  It was either write this blog post, or scream "Are you F***'in kidding me?!!!" from my roof top, which would probably have disturbed my neighbors and alarmed my children.

So, with that said, here's how NOT to pick up chicks ~

1.  Be totally self-absorbed.

Naturally, when you're trying to pick up a woman, she's going to want to know every minute detail about YOU; and you can automatically assume, right off the bat, that she's going to share all of your interests with great enthusiasm and devotion.  Don't bother asking her about HER interests, or hobbies, dreams or goals, favorite pastimes, etc.  She's going to find you so magnetic, so mesmerizing, that she will automatically keel over in rapt joy at the prospect of car shows, car races, baseball, football, poker, etc. etc.  She will wait with feverish anticipation, putting her entire life and activities on hold, to be asked to join you in your sacred world.  Your charm has won her over, she will revolve around your existence, your needs and wants, totally captivated by you, abandoning all other responsibilities, personal activities, or relationships that might interfere with your world.

If you do happen to slip in a question about what she likes to do, or what she's accomplished, or interested in, don't bother following up on it.  Just asking the question is enough to show her that you really care about her as a person.

2.  Give her intimate details about your past partners.

There's nothing that a woman loves more than to hear about your sexual escapades with former partners...everything from what kind of sex they like, what positions worked for them, as well as some personal one-on-one memorable moments.  Also, be sure to share naked photos former partners have shared with you, which can also lead to a discussion of breasts, breast size, areola shapes, the differences in shades of pubic hair, etc.   As you're relating all of these fascinating details, make sure that you whine a great deal about what a bitch your former wife (or girl friend) is.  Make sure you expand on how disgusting you find her, how stupid, illiterate, conniving, slutty, or how she started off really cool, but of course, transformed into any of the previously listed attributes.

3.  "No" doesn't really mean "no".

If a woman turns you down flat, don't give up.  You're so charming and attractive and such a good catch that she's just playing hard to get, or she just doesn't know what she really wants.  When she says, "No, I do not want to go out with you."...she's just kidding, or she really wants to, she just hasn't figured out her own mind yet, she's confused.  So you have to show her.  This means that you need to tell her even more about yourself.  Don't bother trying to get to know her on any sort of deeper level; you're so interesting that she'll be absorbed by it, and besides, her interests/hobbies/accomplishments won't be that interesting, and they're probably miniscule in comparison to you and your life.

If she's really stubborn and just can't make up her mind, and she keeps refusing your invitations, make sure that she see's you with other women, so she gets an idea of just how attractive and desirable you are.

4.  A Few Last Pointers ~

A.  It's okay if you're not financially stable, or able to pay your own bills.  Once you get this gal on board, she can help you with these issues.

I am a WITCH on a BUDGET! I'm always thinking of ways to Use What I Have around the house and incorporate it into my magickal practice.  One of my favorite things to work with is incense.  There's just something about scent that puts you in a perfect frame of mind for all kinds of magick.  It helps me to focus on my intention, and it keeps me centered and inspired with all kinds of good positive energy.  We can't all afford expensive incense and fancy burners.  Did you know that you can make Loose Powdered Incense from the everyday ingredients in your kitchen cupboard?  Well, you can; and this video will show you how to do it, and how well it works...the only thing we're lacking is a "scratch n' sniff"!  Enjoy the video, and have fun making your own incense.

Purple ~ Magickal Energies

Purple is the color of royalty, charm, meditation, idealism, divination, progress, justice, mysticism, devotion, clairvoyance, luck, accomplishment and religion. In magick, purple is employed for protection, power, legal matters, divination, progress, the breaking of bad luck, the access of higher realms, driving away evil, to stop gossip or lies, material wealth, spirit contact and to enhance spiritual and psychic powers.

Purple is the color of your crown chakra, connecting you to Divinity and your Higher Self.

 

I lost my purple somewhere along the way.  For the past three years I was the main driving force keeping a life-long drug addict straight.  The longer we were together, the more my own interests and activities slipped into the background.  Pretty soon, they were non-existent.  And the "me" that was ME was replaced with another persona; this one focused on doctors, and appointments, and bills, and pills. 

I became something far beyond a spouse and partner, something I'm not sure I ever should have been.  I became the gate-keeper, the nurse, the disciplinarian, and the Keeper-Of-The-Pills.  I became responsible for all those things in my husband's life that my husband should have been responsible for himself.  And along the way, I lost my purple.

When you lose your purple, you don't realize you're losing it right away.  It fades gradually, eventually disappearing all together.  It suddenly dawns on you, unexpectedly, triggered by an event, a disappointment, a confrontation, exasperation, desperation, or exhaustion.  You abruptly raise your head above the dark grim focused world you've been immersed in; you look around; and you are acutely aware of the poisonous negative energy surrounding you.  You are shockingly aware of the absence of your purple.  It was a stark, clarifying, defining moment for me.

You suddenly have to ask yourself, "How much of "Me" am I willing to sacrifice for this person?"...a season?  a life time?  "What am I willing to sacrifice for this person?"...all other personal relationships?  financial security?  peace of mind?  It's a somber moment of introspection.

You realize, in the back of your mind, that this needy unpredictable troubled individual may not survive without your discipline, your determination, your strength.  You have to reach a moment, a heartbreaking illuminating moment, when you finally say..."Me first."

You have to reach a primal raw wild place in your soul, where the idea of self-preservation resides.  Only when you arrive at this point where you care about yourself and your future more than you care about someone else's destiny, can you turn a magickal corner.

Once this happens...it's time to find your purple.

From The Witch's Corner ~ Preparing Herbs for Divination & Spirit Contact

Yes, this is another wonderful witchy blog post...I promise you that there will be a Personal blog post coming up in the near future with a very un-witchy theme.  I'm working on it.  In the meantime, spread a little magick :)

I decided at the last minute to shoot this video when I was going to prepare my oil burner with some herbs for divination and spirit contact.  I was planning on doing some divination later in the day, dealing with the topic of spirit communication, and my girls had been at me for a long time to sit down at the table with them and a Ouija board.  I wanted to burn some herbs in my oil burner (potpourrie style) to set the energy in the house on that wave length.

Making a Non-Wax Candle (video!)

The candle I made for this video is a spell candle for love, but for any of my muggles who visit this blog, this is just the basic way to make a regular ole' non-wax candle.  It was so much fun, and even the couple glitches I ran into during the process (which you'll see) didn't dampen my ardor, or the final results!

Making a LOVE Non-Wax Spell Candle ~
Items Needed:
1.  a glass jar, size of your choice
2.  wick
3.  crazy glue
4.  Crisco Shortening, or any other name-brand solid vegetable shortening
5.  a crayon, red
6.  herbs ~ rose petal, hibiscus, nutmeg
7.  essential oil ~ rose
8.  a paper bowl

This project was So Much Fun, and I screwed up during the process!  When I poured the hot mixture into my glass container, the wick became dislodged from the small metal tab that held it to the bottom of the jar.  Oh dear, what shall we do?  Instead of cutting the camera and fixing the problem before moving on, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to show you what I did to fix this problem.  It's all a "learn as we go" process...everything is!

I am hoping to add these candles, in assorted sizes and containers, to the merchandise at The Witch's Corner.  I LOVE making them, so I'm also pretty sure that my daughters will wind up with a multitude of colored candles for various occasions and intentions!
