I'm Back! ~ At least for a while

 
Some of you might have noticed that I've taken a break from the internet and social media.  It was a much needed break, but I think I'm ready to stick my toe in the water once again.  During this lull, I have deleted some Facebook pages and deactivated some social media sites.  However, during this break, I've also been creating new pages at Facebook, starting over with a clean slate, for three new pages with decidedly very pointed topics.

I Deactivated My FB Page

 

Yep, I did it.  It was about time.  Ever since the birth of the algorithm, even though I had thousands of people on my friends list, I think three of them saw my posts (sarcasm, kind of).  True.  I had been reading about "shadow banning" on YouTube, Facebook, and a couple other platforms, and I wanted to see if this is what happened to my FB profile, so I logged into my other profile (come on, we all have one), and even though I was on MY OWN FRIENDS LIST, I saw virtually nothing -- no posts --  when I went to view my main profile.  I thought, boy this is odd, I'm my own friend, but I see virtually nothing.  I'm thinking this must mean that other people on my friends list see virtually nothing as well.

I think I figured out why.

I've been promoting my books on FB for years, literally YEARS, and I got a nice bit of back and forth, responses, comments, and the like, until FB started charging you to "run ads", to pay for "sponsored" ads, and I've seen quite a few of these ads come through my feed from other authors.  But, hey, I don't make enough money off of anything to pay for promotion, and I'm not really sure how much I trust their spiel:  "If you pay us $50 for an ad, it will be shown to 3000 people".  No, I don't believe it.

So, there you go.  

I have a private page now, consisting of family, a handful of people I know from The Real World, and a few internet friends I've had for years that I've become very fond of -- and I have a few more of these people that I need to reconnect with.  Less than 30 people so far, and it feels much more cozy than 4000 people who were mostly total strangers.

I do want to say that with my private page I have now, I did take the opportunity to create three new public pages at Facebook, and I'm going to give you the links to those pages here.

Women ~ Warning About FB Groups for Women

 

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, that's what my grandmother would say, and it sure is.  Ladies be aware that some of those "all women" FB groups you've joined are not necessarily being run by women.  Following below, you'll see two FB posts that I made as a warning as I was disovering these shenanigans in real time:

  • 1)  6-25-24   Interesting... I belonged to a group called "Laugh With Women", supposedly pretty much a woman's group, which honestly I have to admit was funny and interesting. But during the course of comments on one post at this group, someone discovered and revealed that these posts were actually being put up by some guy in Spain. I took a look, hopping from the Admin's group profile, to view their FB profile, which was pretty sparse and kind of sketchy, with lots of those polished fake photos men use to get women friends, you know what I mean -- the lady was right. When I realized this and was leaving a confirmation post on this lady's comment, suddenly everything disappeared. I unexpectedly and without warning no longer had access to this group, or to this individual's profile. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! Nothing is what it seems to be.
  • 2)  6-25-24   I found another one!! I have family members at this group: Laugh with the Ladies (the original)... you guys, this is supposed to be a FB group FOR WOMEN, but of the 7 Admins, six are men and they have their personal FB profiles "Locked". There's a link to the Admin Page in the comments [you'll find that link above at this blog post]. Please check it out and see what you think? Doesn't it seem a little odd that a group Only For Women is Admin'ed by men???? I'd report this to FB, but I doubt it would do any good. Be careful out there!!

Here is A Link to the Admin's page, where you can click on their name to go to their "group profile", and from there click on "view profile" to go to their FB profiles.

I just visited this site a few minutes ago and these guys are posting like crazy. I took two screen shots of posts that contained links, encouraging older women to join these FB groups for "women over 50" and for "old timers".






These "women's groups" at Facebook are not legitmate. They are not what they want you to think they are. We can assume that these individuals are trying to draw in older women for the purpose of romance scams. I know this is only an assumption, but it's a pretty good assumption at that. It's clear what's going on.

Ladies, please be careful and cautious of any "women's groups" on Facebook.

I don't know how to report this, or who to report this to, because FB isn't very user friendly in this respect. If there's anyone out there who knows how to contact the proper agency or individuals, please do. And you have to wonder exactly how many of these fake groups are out there, groups being run by predators with the perfect platform for their nefarious use.

I didn't want to be rude ~ but, really?

 

I have begun paring down some of my Facebook pages, and trimming up and redoing some of my websites and blogs, as my creativity is taking new twists and turns and bents, as everything eventually does with time.

I had a FB page to connect with my websites, two of them, and then there was an author's page, because why not, all the authors on FB seem to do that; and there were ten pages for my books, each book having its own special page, tra-la-la.  I deactivated all of these.  I believe that's 13 pages?

The Witch's Corner FB page was probably the most predominantly popular page, with 40,000 likes and followers.  Now, mind you, that it so deceptive.  For all the cotton pickin' posts that I made on this FB page, for years, there was virtuallly NO interaction, none at all.  I felt like I was talking to myself.  I really didn't think that anyone was paying any attention, or that maybe FB was not allowing this page to be seen.  

So, just to be courteous, and because it's what you usually do, before I deactivated this page I put up a little post stating that I would be doing this on a particular date. I had over 100 people respond to this post.  I know, out of 40,000 that's still not even a drop in the bucket, but when you compare it to ZERO, it's a miracle.  

One lady said something to the effect:  "I'm so sorry to see this go, this page has been such an inspiration to me for such a long time; I just love it, but you do what you think you have to do."

Really?

You mean it never occured to this woman over the course of this "long time" to interact at all?  Not to click the Like button, not to leave a comment, nothing... she was lurking, just my opinion.  Did she think I, as a creator, would keep this up forever with absolutley No Feedback, no idea if anyone was reading it, or if anyone liked it?  I had no idea if anyone could even see it!

I was disgusted.

And that's the end of my story/rant today.

Facebook and Couples ~ browsing separately together



There's always so much negative being said about couples browsing FB on their phones, and most of the criticism is probably warranted. But how many couples, including Bob and I, might lay down for an evening to relax and browse our independent phones -- together -- sharing stuff? It's fun... humorous or unusual videos, news about friends and family, memes that hit the spot, inspirational posts, etc.

Your shared social media profiles can be a source of conversation, humor, and enlightening revelations (the good kind).  It's fun and makes for a relaxing enjoyable evening.  I highly recommend it.

Facebook Friends Request ~ Seriously? Sorta' Spooky

 



*Note: Friends requests are certainly welcome! The point is, if I can't see any info on your profile, you have to fill me in before I'll add you.



Seriously... to total strangers who are putting in a friends request (not necessarily the "fake profiles") : If I can't see your info (no information At All), nothing about you except a Facebook banner and maybe a couple photos, maybe not, I will never respond to this request. 

You can see me. 

  • I need to know who you are... your location (you know where I am)

  • If there is anything in common (why are you friend requesting me)

  • Facebook already tells me if we have any friends in common, and if we do, okay, but if we don't... how did you find me? 

  • Why do you want to be friends? 


I know this is a very public Facebook page, which was originally set up primarily to sell books and witchy merchandise and services.  But over the years, it has also grown into a personal Facebook page as well, full of family and real-world friends, and a few internet friends that are dearly embraced as well.

I have stopped adding total strangers with zero information shown on their FB page.

There are almost 200 friend requests sitting in my queue right now.  Some of them look like delightful people that I will eventually add, I just haven't gotten around to going through this as a top priority right now.

And then there are The Strangers, along with some obviously Fake Profiles that will be dismissed.

If you've sent me a friend request, but your profile is set to private, or friends only, send me a message and let me know about yourself.  😏  (Uh, like are you a stalker? Serial killer? An ex? Or a partner's ex? Are you secretly anti-Witch?  Are you going to try and convert me?... stuff like that.)

Connections




I've been immersed since the beginning of December working on book #7.  It's so exciting and so all-consuming that it's hard to pull my head up out of my computer and take care of life's everyday needs.  The entire manuscript will be due towards the end of February, and I feel the pull of deadlines, though I'm actually doing really well and am even early, as I am in general.  (I'm always punctual and even early for everything!)

I'm excited to finish the project; I'm excited to see the finished product; and I'm excited to see this book out there for the general public to purchase!  I love this project, and I feel super good about how it's coming along.

Eventually, when I get the green light from my editor, I'll be able to give you more details. Until then, you can only imagine. 💜

I just pulled 8 of cups ~ this is the card that tells you when it's time to leave, its time to end something, and it's time to move on to other places, events, and people in life. I'm hearing a couple different things... 1) Someone may regret a hasty exit, or a hasty ending. The thing is, once the story has evolved to this point, it's very hard, if not impossible, to go back. It's like zombie movies -- you can revive the dead, but they'll never be quite be the same 2) I see a couple who have separated, one of you is determinedly trudging ahead, not looking back, trying very hard to move forward and focus on the future. The other one is morosely reliving and rethinking the relationship, unable to move on, and regretting the separation. What happens in a situation like this? It depends on how successful the first person is on moving forward. And it depends on how long the second person will wait for them to return.

Can You Have Too Many Facebook Pages?

Can you?  Well, maybe, especially considering that if you have a lot of FB pages, not a lot of people are going to see them anyway if you don't PAY for Promotion of these pages.  I am one of those people who has too many Facebook pages, and I can tell you that when things "changed up" on FB a few years ago, it was like your FB space went into lockdown. 

My opinion:  It's only by a fluke and a fancy that anyone is going to stumble across you on FB if you don't pay for promotion of your pages.  Those pages are going to sit like a dead horse in the water.  And even your personal page is affected in the same way.  I have a pretty solid following on FB, but many people have told me that they hardly ever see me in their FB feed (I don't know if some of these people have their notifications permissions tightened up, but I'm assuming that because they were dismayed at not seeing me, they were expecting to.)  Sometimes, numbers aside, I feel like a marble in an empty bureau drawer.

Anything to do with tarot gets posted on the tarot books; anything inspirational or of interest to women gets posted on The Spiritual Feminist; and of course all the witchy stuff gets shot right to the witchy books... and then again, stuff just gets posted to all of the book pages so they aren't stagnant.
